A group of school-age children from area elementary schools will have an opportunity to participate in an After-School Enrichment Program. The goal of the program is to provide a safe and nurturing environment where children can do the following:
- Receive assistance with homework
- Engage in educational activities
- Utilize the computer appropriately
- Participate in other enrichment programs offered
Each child is allotted a one hour homework period. Also, each child is expected to complete at least 20 minutes of reading daily.
We will supply each child with one nutritious snack, juice and water. If your child requires more, you are welcome to send more. As soon as your child arrives at the center, he/she will take a bathroom break and wash hands to prepare for snack time, complete homework, and then be allowed to participate in Station Breaks. Our Station Breaks include but are not limited to Creative Writing, Computer Skills, Game Break, Outdoor Free Play or participation in a variety of other group activities. Our center offers a Tutoring Program, a Mentoring Program, Dance Class, Karate Class, and Technology Class. Fees may apply for some activities.
We will follow the County of Henrico school closing schedule and inclement weather policies. However, as long as our center is open, we are here to serve you. We will provide you with a monthly calendar to include activities or field trips planned for half days, student holidays, daycare closings, etc. Some additional costs may apply for lunch, activities and field trips. You will be made aware of additional costs in advance.
Our After-School Enrichment Program provides transportation from area elementary schools including:
- Highland Springs Elementary
- Jacob L. Adams Elementary
During the summer, we extend our services to The VLC Adventure Summer Camp, which is offered to a limited number of school-age children. Our program is designed to expose your child to a world of opportunities as it related to continuous learning. Studies have shown that children who continue to learn during the summer tend to do better in school. Therefore, we promote education by offering a segment in "Exploring Our World." Each summer we will introduce a theme which will include some really fun activities, cooking experiments, field trips, plus a lot more. Our staff is committed to ensuring the satefy of your child while enrolled at The Village Learning Center, Inc. It will be an experience your child will never forget as they continue to have fun while learning.
